One of the goals of the Southeast Regional Center for Children and Youth With Special Health Care Needs is to assure that families of children with special needs partner in decision-making at all levels. While the roles families can play is limitless, the following section provides an overview about one way to include family voices within a hospital or clinic setting through a family advisory committee.

The toolkit was designed for a presentation at a conference sponsored by the Institute for Family Centered Care and includes information on how to develop a successful committee with administrative buy-in, meaningful goals, and committed members. In addition, a sample workplan, budget, recruitment tips and more are included.
